‘serpant modular shelving system’ by bashko trybek - images courtesy of bashko trybek
Polish designer Bashko Trybek created ‘serpent’, a modular shelving system that uses four vivid zigzagging wires as support its wooden planks. Since each piece stands alone, the structure becomes adjustable, allowing users to decide on the length, height, and space between the shelves. The visual strength of the product is due to the simplicity of its idea, combining basic forms in an unexpected way.

Berlin-based industrial designer Werner Aisslinger created ‘iconograph’, a modern timepiece for italian watch company, lorenz. The gadget keeps the classic form of the rounded wristwatches, but adds texture and visual interest in the face of the device. the numbers are framed by windows, adding depth to the otherwise clean surface. The hour hand mirrors the idea of windows as it too, is an elongated rectangle. Meant for everyday use, durable materials were used, such as the quartz movement and the stainless steel case. The bracelet is rubber to make it comfortable for the user’s wrist. The clean form and personalized color choices allow this watch to be unisex.

dominic wilcox: brush hooksa group of creatives have been challenged to ‘take an everyday object, remould, rebuild and repurpose it to create an entirely new item, using as little additional materials as possible’ to be displayed as part of the exhibition ‘object abuse’. among them is british designer dominic wilcox who took his starting point from the experience of one forgetting to wash their brushes after use, returning to find that their bristles have become hardened with paint. with this, wilcox has developed ‘brush hooks’, a series of paint brushes whose bristles have been purposely hardened and curved upwards to create wall-mounted hooks to hang one’s belongings.’one day I was walking through an art shop and looked at the brushes. they seemed pleasant objects so I decided to come up with something using one of them. I remembered how I used to forget to wash paint brushes after using them and then would find them hard and unusable the next day. after quite a few trials and mistakes I managed to make something useful, a coat hook. handily, there is a hole at the top of the handle for the screw.’ - dominic wilcox

joongho choi: bachag chairdesigned to create a hybrid style object between furniture and fashion, the ‘bachag chair’ has been conceived to visibly show its structure and usability. developed by korean designer joongho choi, the chair is meant to express the function of a garment, giving the user a comfort similar to that of wearing a bag when transporting it. constructed from wood and aluminum, ’bachag chair’ is manufactured by boheumg furniture.
